Sympathy In The Workplace
September 1, 2021Candles: What Do They Symbolize During The Holiday Season?
December 9, 2021Heads Up, Phones Down…
“Heads up, phones down.”
This mantra was recently passed along to me as part of a precaution reminder in being more aware and vigilant of my surroundings, since it’s getting dark earlier and Daylight Savings time is right around the corner. It’s easy to get lost in thought while scrolling or chatting on our devices when we’re out and about – hence it is very good safety advice no matter what time of day or night it is.
“Heads up, phones down” is also advisable and applicable in polite social norms. By now we’ve more than likely mastered eye contact in our virtual meetings, practiced our true smiles (crinkling our eyes) while wearing our masks, and maintained physical distancing when around others.
Moving forward, as we re-enter and re-engage into society via in-person settings let’s practice being mindful of “heads up, phones down”. Greet, engage and connect with others by being fully present and tucking your phone away.
It’s good practice as it makes others feel acknowledged and appreciated. It’s a good safety mantra. “Heads up, phones down” – it’s just a good habit all around!
