A Meaningful Apology…

“A meaningful apology is one that communicates the three R’s: regret, responsibility, and remedy.” – Beverley Engel

For some people, though, it can be quite difficult to say the words: “I’m sorry”.

Admitting you are wrong, have made a mistake, or have hurt someone can go a very long way in your professional and personal relationships. Apologizing:
✔️ Shows integrity and accountability
✔️ Demonstrates respect for others
✔️ Paves the way to clean up past or ongoing problems

Apology considerations:
🔺 Don’t blame, make excuses or justify
🔺 Don’t make an apology and end it with “but”…
♻️ Make the apology from you in a full sentence
♻️ Be specific, sincere and honest

When apologizing you could say:
✨ I am sorry for…
✨ I apologize for…
✨ I made a mistake when…
✨ Please forgive me…
✨ I know I hurt you when I…and I’m sorry

When receiving the apology, respond graciously and kindly in a full sentence:
🔑 I accept your apology…
🔑 Your apology is accepted…

After the apology has been extended and accepted: move on, let it go, don’t hold a grudge. No need to bring it up again: the regret, responsibility and remedy are now solid.
